The Auxiliary does this through the Katie Lambert Foundation. So successful is the operation that the institutution has outgrown its present building of 80 beds. Plans are underway for a modern 300 bed hospital to meet the needs of the growing beach area.

Beach Hospital Due Expansion
Fort Lauderdale Beach Hospital, now a non-profit nonsectarian community hospital, has announced appointment of committee of trustees to raise $500,000 and expand the hospital to 155 beds. Sept. 29, the Lambert Foundation, Inc., bought the hospital from the prior owners, a private profit corporation. President of the foundation is John D. Mendez, who said the hospital is launching an immediate improvement program enlarging the laboratory and radiology facilities, building a new emergency room and ambulance entrance, increasing kitchen and dietary areas and widening corridors.

Beach Hospital Work Is Started
A new 153-bed hospital, designed to serve the estimated 10 per cent of Broward County population east of the Intracoastal Waterway between the 17th Street Causeway and the Hillsboro Inlet, is under way. The new North Beach Medical Center on 'a three-acre plot at 2835 N. Atlantic Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale will ultimately replace the smaller 15-year-old Beach Hospital, several blocks north of Las Olas Boulevard.

Cost Key To Approval Of Alcoholism Center
The feasibility of buying the former Beach Hospital in Fort Lauderdale for an alcoholic detoxification and rehabilitation facility will be explored by Broward County officials. Eve Marsh, executive director of the Commission on Alcoholism, won Broward County Commission support yesterday for proposal to use the story building as a treatment facility which could ultimately care for 100 alcoholics.

A beach area landmark, the former Blue Water Motel and Lauderdale Beach Hospital at 125 N. Birch Rd., is being rebuilt as a condominium to be called Springbrook Gardens. Canadian investor Gleason Martin bought the property from stockholders in the hospital's corporation and is turning the choice site into an 18-unit residential complex. Thirteen two-bedroom, two-bath apartments and five two-bedroom, 2½ bath townhouses are included.

Plans for the new 250-bed general hospital to serve the beach area indicate that the first phase of construction will be completed by 1972. The new Beach Hospital, located on a 100,000 square foot site bounded on the east by N Ocean Blvd. (Highway A1A) and on the west by Seagrape Blvd., will replace the present Beach Hospital at 125 N Birch Rd.

New Medical Center's Construction On Time
The new North Beach Medical Center, which will serve residents and visitors to the beach area of Fort Lauderdale, is proceeding on schedule, according to Chuck Christensen, construction project manager... Old Hospital Favored As Alcoholic Center
A majority of Fort Lauderdale city commissioners have indicated they will permit the old Beach Hospital to be used as an alcoholic detoxification center despite complaints from surrounding neighbors. Commissioners were told last week that residents near the old hospital building on Birch Road are unhappy with tentative plans by the Broward County Commission to purchase the building for $500,000 for use as rehabilitation center.

Opening Scheduled Next Week Names of key personnel who will staff the Ft. Lauderdale Beach Hospital when it accepts its first patients Wednesday have been announced by Dr. Louis L. Amato, medical director of the new hospital.
Located at 125 N Birch Rd., hospital was formerly the Blue Water Hotel. L.C. Judd & Co., Inc., local realty firm which was instrumental in the original development of the hotel when it was built in 1949, handled the transfer of the property from its former owner, Frank R. Peterson, to the group of buyers headed by Amato.

Swank Beach Hotel To Become Hospital
A test of quick change artistry is scheduled for early May when the Blue Water Hotel will be transformed from swank waterfront hostelry into a 100-bed hospital for the care of the chronically ill. The last winter guests will leave the Blue Water on April 30, contractors will move in, and on May 15 the Ft. Lauderdale Beach Hospital will admit its first patients. "It's a big task," says Dr. Louis L. Amato, medical tor of the proposed hospital, "but there's a tremendous need for care of the chronically ill in this area.

The Beach Hospital to Expand
Plans to move Beach Hospital a short distance northward of its present location at 125 N Birch Rd. and to triple its facilities were announced today by Ernest C. Murray, the recently re-elected chairman the board of directors. The exact location cannot be disclosed at this time since negotiations to acquire the property are still in progress, said Dr. Richard A. Neubauer, secretary - treasurer of the medical staff. "It will still be in the beach area, however," Neubauer added.
